Islam in Bahrain

The main religion in Bahrain is Islam, with 70 % of the population being Muslims. The main branch of Islam in Bahrain is Shi'a Islam with approximately 50 % of the population being Shi'a Muslims, Sunni Muslims only make up 20 % of the Bahraini population, there are many mosques in Bahrain almost one around every corner.

Christianity in Bahrain

Christianity is a large minority in Bahrain with 12 % of the population identifying as Christian. Most Bahraini Christians are Pentecostal making up 7 % of the population. Others are Catholics 2 % who are English or Pakistani, others are Syriac Orthodox 2 % and the remaining  1 % are Anglicans who are all English people. There are 90 churches.

Other Religions in Bahrain

Many other religions besides these 2 monotheistic religions exist in Bahrain, 9 % follow the Sabean religion which is the original Pre Islamic religion of Saudi Arabia, the Sabeans moved to Bahrain because of lack of religion tolerance in Saudi Arabia, where only Islam is allowed, all Sabeans are Arabs. 2 % of Bahrains population are Zoroastrians ( Parsees ) who are all expatriates from either Iran or Pakistan, another 2 % are Jewish which is extremely rare for an Arab country who are mostly expatriates from Israel or native Barbars. 1 % are Buddhists, 1 % are Hindus all these being Pakistanis, however, most Pakistanis in Bahrain are Muslims as they are in Pakistan. 1 % are Wiccans, the neopagan religion of Ancient England, 1 % follow the native Barbar religion of Bahrain and 1 % are Baha'i which is a new religion from Iran founded by Bahaullah, an Iranian prophet and was brought to Bahrain by Iranian expatriates. Religion is diverse in Bahrain and followers of other religions than Islam are allowed to worship freely in public, however, forced conversions of Muslim to another religion is forbidden, and Bahrain has Sharia law and also British law in place in Bahraini courts.
